Good, quality materials set the tone for what is a considered a refined interior of the Arteon, although many consider the design to be on the conservative side! Despite that, roominess is found here, both in the front and rear, where legroom is bountiful. The Arteon is powered by a 300-hp, turbocharged, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine which has an output of 295 pound-feet of torque. This is matched with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. In the base SE model, drivers are given the option of front-wheel-drive only, with all-wheel-drive standard on the SEL and SEL Premium.
The trim level will dictate the wheels, with the Arteon coming standard with 18-, 19- or 20-inch wheels. Also standard is adaptive suspension dampers, which adjust automatically to one’s driving style. Manually they are set to Comfort, Normal or Sport. Corners are a breeze thanks to the advanced XDS Cross Differential System with dynamic traction support.
In the Arteon drivers and passengers alike enjoy a smooth and controlled ride, with precise steering and competent handling. Speed is also a plus here, with the Arteon reaching 60 mph in just 13.3 seconds and reaching speeds of 103 mph on a test track.
Thanks to this engine and performance, it is expected that the EPA-rated efficiency of the Arteon will match last year’s model, which came in at 24/34 mpg city/highway with FWD and 22/30 mpg with AWD.
