What we know!
Heading into the 2025 model year, perhaps the biggest change when it comes to the Jetta is linked to its exterior styling. That is made clear in a completely redesigned front featuring new headlights, a subtle upper front grille tweak and trapezoidal lower air intakes. The rear is nearly the same as the older model, with the exception of the trunk which features new reflector elements bridging the taillights that create the illusion of a full-width taillight bar.
The colors to choose from are also exciting, including such new hues as Monterey Blue Pearl and Monument Grey. The SE trim gets new 17-inch wheels, while the SEL and GLI trims sit atop 18-inchers. With the GLI comes the option to black out the wheels and side mirror caps.
Tech savvy!
Within the new Jetta is a plethora of tech features, including the standard 8.0-inch “floating” touchscreen display which is positioned front and center in between the driver and passenger. This new infotainment system offers the necessary staples for today’s savvy consumer, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite radio and voice command. New for the 2025 model year will be a 15-watt wireless smartphone charging pad.
Also new inside are the dual-zone climate controls which switch to capacitive touch controls on all trims, as well as “Mokekular” cloth seats on the Sport Trim, “Microcloud” seat covers on the SE and heated steering wheel on the GLI.
VW also updated the Jetta’s dash trim with a new metallic bar that runs from the touchscreen all the way to the passenger-side air vent. Interior upholstery options include two types of cloth, perforated synthetic leather or real leather.
Its power!
The new Jetta won’t be receiving a boost in power due to that also increasing the price. Instead, power for all the non-GLI Jettas is provided by a carry-over 158-hp turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine mated with an eight-speed automatic transmission. This power results in agile handling and a slightly more mature vibe.
Those wishing to step up to the Jetta GLI will take advantage of the swapped 228-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, which sends power to the front wheels through a torque-sensing limited-slip differential with an electronic lock. This sport version of the Jetta also rides on adaptive dampers which take the edge off of its 18-inch alloy wheels.
While most of the compact car competition has been steering away from stick shifts, the Jetta for 2025 is still holding on. Unlike the VW Golf GTI hatchback, the Jetta GLI sedan sticks with a stick for the 2025 model year. A six-speed manual is standard, while a seven-speed dual–clutch automatic is optional.
Fuel consumption estimates are not yet available, but last year’s model provides a guess. It was estimated as high as 30/41/34 mpg city/highway/combined with the same powertrain as the 2025 model. Last year’s GLI was estimated at 24/35/28 mpg.
A few more facts!
When it comes to trim levels, the Jetta offers many benefits and add-ons with each. The 2025 lineup consists of S, Sport, SE and SEL trim levels, plus the more powerful GLI.
When the new Jetta goes on sale, which is expected to be the third quarter of 2024, the Mexico-built model will cost consumers a starting price of $23,220, which includes a mandatory destination charge. This cost, which factors in the newly standard automatic transmission, is less than last year’s model.
