The Volkswagen T-Roc, a compact crossover utility vehicle, known as a UTE, was a hit at the Geneva auto show in 2014. Since then, T-Roc fans wonder if, and when, they will see this little brother to the Tiguan in showrooms.

Volkswagen has welcome news for those waiting for this fun, sporty crossover. Unlike some concept cars, Volkswagen will produce the T-Roc for the American market. It may make its U.S. debut in 2019!

Since the European T-Roc will roll out first in 2018, test drives are underway. Based on those results, we can make some educated guesses about the stateside model. With that said, exciting things are in store for the upcoming Volkswagen T-Roc.

1. Built for the Modern Family

Volkswagen reimagined the T-Roc to accommodate adventurous couples and families in the U.S. Smaller than the Tiguan, it’s still roomy and functional. Like its European cousin, the U.S. T-Roc will have four doors. Plus, the ample trunk space allows you to pack all you need for a family road trip.

2. Funky and Youthful Design

Just because it’s practical doesn’t mean the T-Roc won’t look and feel cool. Unlike larger SUVs, crossovers sit on a car body. This makes them a bit lower than traditional SUVs. The T-Roc’s body design is based on the Golf, Volkswagen’s best-selling car in the U.S.

Additionally, the T-Roc is a bit wider and higher than the Golf, giving it a modern look that won’t remind you of your mom’s minivan. To further appeal to a younger crowd, the T-Roc will sport large blocks of colorful interior trim. LED lighting will add to the youthful ambiance as well.

3. VW Performance

German engineering is evident in the T-Roc crossover. Its 148-horsepower 1.5-liter engine powers the six-speed DSG twin-clutch automatic transmission, taking it to 60 mph in 9 seconds. The T-Roc also delivers exceptional front-wheel-drive handling.

The 4MOTION all-wheel drive is a welcome optional upgrade. The T-Roc may add Street Mode and Off-Road Mode settings as well. Plus, drivers can quickly switch modes at the touch of the display screen. Also, a manual transmission and diesel engine are European options that could make it stateside.

4. Innovative Technology

The T-Roc should offer all the latest gadgets and some new ones not seen in earlier Volkswagen SUVs. Drivers will love The VW Group’s highly rated Multi Media Interface (MMI) system that controls the entertainment, Bluetooth, and other settings. T-Roc buyers will also enjoy a power-saving AMOLED (active matrix organic LED) display for climate controls.

Owners may also get a removable infotainment control tablet. Front and rear cameras will be another tech highlight in the latest T-Roc. Finally, the front camera can shoot HD video through the windshield or face your passengers.

The T-Roc crossover has changed a bit from the Geneva show concept car. It’s practical but still offers a youthful alternative to traditional SUVs. It’s possible that T-Roc may get a new name for the U.S. market. Stay tuned to our blog for details. As of now, look for an exciting crossover addition to the Volkswagen lineup in showrooms in 2019.
