Vintage cars have always been popular with car enthusiasts and collectors, but the iconic VW Microbus transcends all generations and has many fans. Known as the Bus, Bulli, Hippie van, and Transporter, the microbus has always been well loved by people everywhere and is especially associated with the counterculture and hippie movement of the 1960s.

It is a Revival of an Iconic and Beloved Vehicle

Complete with a brand-new design, the new VW ID Buzz is a modern version of the classic microbus. VW has had much success with cars that bring emotional attachment to many people. Case in point: the VW Beetle has been a success over the many decades it has been available. There will be some differences, of course. The ID Buzz version of the microbus will be much zippier than you may remember. While the original was low powered and notoriously slow, the ID Buzz will go from zero to 60 in only five seconds.

It Will Be All Electric

As part of a settlement deal after its recent diesel emissions scandal and to meet its goal of selling one million electric vehicles per year, VW has focused on making the ID Buzz electric. The electric vehicle will have two electric motors, one in front and one in back, and a 110-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack. These features allow the model to drive up to 270 miles on one EPA cycle using a total of 269 horsepower. The battery will be able to be charged to 80 percent of its capacity in just half an hour.

It has Several Other Great Features

Some of the many features rumored to be part of the VW ID Buzz are all-wheel drive, autonomous drive capabilities, an illuminated glass logo, and a lounge area in the cabin. Because the ID Buzz houses the battery packs, electric motors, and suspension components in the vehicle’s frame, there is also more space in the van’s cabin for activities and fun. VW designed the interior of the cabin to look like a living room, with a table and rotating front seats to create a lounge space to enjoy with the friends on your road trip. Think of the possibilities! From dinner to drinks to card games to late night chats, you’ll never lack for a place to hang out while on the road.

You’ll Only Have to Wait Five Years to Buy One

According to an unnamed source that spoke with Automotive News, the new ID Buzz will be available in 2022. Digital Trends predicts that the vehicle could be available in showrooms even earlier, in 2021. Although the VW brand chief Herbert Diess did not confirm this date, he did state that it would be going into production soon. We should know more in the next few years.

Now that you’re excited about the release of the new VW ID Buzz, the only thing you’ll have to do is check for updates on the release, practice a little patience, and save up some money for the release of the revamped microbus in five years!
