The Volkswagen Beetle is one of the most iconic and easily identified VW models. You can choose between a coupe and a convertible, each with room for four passengers. For 2017, Volkswagen adds a new limited-edition model they call #PinkBeetle. Here is a look at the coolest updates to the 1.8T SE model.
The Engine
The engine in the 1.8T SE is a 1.8-liter turbo four-cylinder that delivers 170 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. You can choose between a five-speed manual and a six-speed automatic transmission. This is an economical car with a fuel efficiency of 25 miles per gallon on the highway and 34 mpg in the city.
The Technology
The SE comes with a 6.3-inch touchscreen display along with Bluetooth and audio streaming. You can listen to your music through the eight-speaker audio system that comes with both auxiliary and USB inputs, and it has an infotainment system that allows for app integration. This model also features a multifunction trip computer that will calculate your trip time, the trip length, and your average speed along with the average fuel consumption. You can add the Volkswagen Car-Net App-Connect system to the SE along with other tech features such as the Car-Net Security & Service system.
The Safety Features
The 1.8T SE comes with electronic stability control and an engine brake assist system. There are front airbags for the driver and the front seat passenger along with front side airbags. The SE also comes standard with an intelligent crash response system and an automatic post-collision braking system. Other available safety features that you can add to the vehicle include a blind spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, and Volkswagen’s Park Pilot system that provides park distance control.
The Interior
Inside the Beetle, you’ll find ambient lighting to set the mood in the car, and a three-spoke leather-wrapped, multifunction steering wheel. The flat bottom design helps you stay in control while the integrated controls mean you can adjust the audio and other features without taking your hands off the wheel. The front seats adjust six different ways for maximum comfort, and there is a full upholstered luggage compartment. The gauges in the Beetle have a retro look with modern touches for a sleek-looking style that upholds the iconic look and heritage of this car.
The Exterior Design
New for 2017, VW redesigned the bumpers both in the front and the back. They gave them a new sporty and modern look, and it also comes with Bi-Xenon headlights complete with LED daytime running lights that will last longer and use less energy. On the side, there are heated power mirrors, and you can add a power tilting and sliding panoramic sunroof to the coupé that allows you to let the sun in with just the touch of a button. The Beetle 1.8T comes with 16-inch alloy wheels and a rear spoiler to complete the look, and you can choose from fun colors such as Bottle Green, Habanero Orange, and Fresh Fuchsia.
