The 2018 Atlas is an all-new model from Volkswagen. It will be the largest crossover in VW’s lineup, yet it will be one of the more economical and practical models available, even at higher trim levels. There are several other great reasons to get excited for this new vehicle, so read on to see what the Atlas offers.
Powertrains
The Atlas starts with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Drivers who want a little more push to the Atlas’ acceleration can get a 3.6-liter V6 with 276 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. This upgraded powertrain unlocks the options to give the model 4MOTION all-wheel drive as well, which is ideal for drivers who want to take the Atlas on trails. Both engines are well suited to pushing the 4,550-pound SUV, particularly because of the generous amounts of torque.
Standard Features
Atlas models give the driver a lot for a little, and this is best shown with the lower models. The basic trim level for the 2018 Atlas is the S, which includes the four-cylinder engine, LED headlights, a 6.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Audo, and a rearview backup camera.
Move up to the SE for only a few thousand dollars more, and the V6 engine is added along with keyless entry, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, premium leatherette upholstery, heated seats, an 8-inch infotainment screen replacement, three more USB ports, and blind spot monitoring.
Upgrade Potential
Another great thing about the SE is that it offers a Technology package that loads the SUV up with driver aids, including autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warnings, and adaptive cruise control. It also adds a power liftgate, rain-sensing wipers, remote start, and tri-zone climate control.
Go a step further to the SEL, and the Technology package is included, plus a power passenger seat, parking sensors, a 115-volt power outlet, and a panoramic sunroof. The top-level SEL Premium and its optional packages add everything from ventilated seats to second-row captain’s chairs.
Attractive Design
The Atlas is certainly about as muscular as the mythological Titan. Bulging wheel wells and generous sculpting lines at the hood give the Atlas a mature but capable impression. For those who want the most head-turning SUV possible, Volkswagen offers an R-Line package for the SE and SEL models, affordably upgrading them with 20-inch wheels, unique bumpers, side skirts, and R-line badging along with interior upgrades like stainless-steel sport pedals. VW confirmed that other appearance packages will be available by the Atlas’ imminent release date as well.
The Atlas’s projected prices and feature lists make it one of the most affordable SUVs to customize. Going up to the V6 with all-wheel drive will cost a fair bit less compared to similar SUVs, and even the higher trims with all the VIP features aren’t expected to break into the luxury price range. The model is almost here, so contact or visit us soon if you’re interested. We’d be happy to help.
