Akron has a lot to offer its residents, and if you’re in the mood to get outside and enjoy nature’s beauty, there’s no better place to do it. Looking for some worthy inspiration? This list of potential places to go is just the thing to encourage you to load up the car and get ready for a memorable day out in Akron.

1. Explore the F.A. Seiberling Nature Realm

This beautiful spot offers three basic hiking trails that are perfect for introducing kids to nature’s splendor. Two of the trails here feature a 110-foot suspension bridge that takes you across a ravine. Of the three trails, only one is moderately hilly, so you’re sure to find lots to enjoy even if you’re not an avid hiker or aren’t ready for steep inclines and potentially tiresome treks.

Other perks of this park include an herb and rock garden, a visitor’s center, and a picnic area. The park also has public restrooms, which are handy if you’re planning on spending the day there.

2. Exercise on the Old Portage Area Jogging Trail

Perhaps you’re a new parent and need to restrict your enjoyment of nature to terrain that you can traverse while pushing a baby stroller. Or maybe a member of your family has limited mobility and walks with a cane or uses a wheelchair, but loves going outside and enjoying nature. The Old Portage Area Jogging Trail is suitable for both these scenarios and more. This trail is also pet-friendly, which is good news if the family dog is as eager to enjoy Akron’s natural beauty as the household’s humans.

This trail is a 1-mile round-trip journey from start to finish. At peak times it averages 1,000 users per day. You’ll find picnic tables and restrooms here, as well as a shelter, in case you get caught in a sudden rain storm.

3. Pitch a Tent at Maple Lakes Campground

Sometimes the best way to truly experience nature is to immerse yourself in it by camping out under the stars. If you’re willing to venture outside of Akron, Maple Lakes Campground offers a fun camping experience whether you regularly sleep in a tent during camping season or are doing it for the first time. Located in Seville, this Ohio favorite is a little more than 20 miles west of Akron.

This campground operates from spring through fall and offers amenities such as a swimming pool, a fishing area, and even Wi-Fi access. The campground also hosts periodic special events such as hay rides and movie screenings, so you’re not likely to get bored, even if you’re staying a while. If you don’t have a recreational vehicle and aren’t thrilled with the idea of temporarily using a tent as your sleeping space, consider renting one of the campground’s well-equipped cabins.

Now you have three cool ideas that’ll help you get out and explore Akron’s gorgeous surroundings. Start planning a trip today, and look forward to making lasting memories.
