What we know!
In the 2025 model year, minor updates have taken place for the ID.4, following significant upgrades the year prior. Specifically, last year, the model saw a revised infotainment system, updated software and increased performance. For this year, all ID.4s with the 58.0-kWh battery now come with a 12.9 inch display with backlit sliders as standard, while S models with the same battery pack now have standard ventilated front-row seats.
Buyers can also enjoy the “Black Package” with the S and S Plus models, which serve to darken the mirror caps, door handles, badging and 20-inch black aluminum wheels. The S Plus models add an auto-dimming driver’s side door mirror as a stylish touch.
In the area of power, thanks to a 201-horsepower single-motor, the ID.4 with rear-wheel drive delivers up to 206 miles of EPA-estimated range, but for those desiring more, they can opt for the mid-level 282-horsepower, single-motor rear drive version with the larger of the two available batteries delivering 291 miles per charge. For those who desire even more, there's a 335-hp dual-motor AWD ID.4 which also uses the bigger battery to deliver both top performance and 263 miles of range.
Regenerative braking aids in recapturing the energy when slowing the vehicle, but the familiar one-pedal driving capability that EV drivers have come to know and love is missing here. Also lacking is the aggressive acceleration that electric vehicles often provide.
When it comes to speed, the base rear-wheel drive ID.4 does deliver, although considered laid back in comparison to some, with an estimated 7.3-second 0-60 mph time. The 282-hp rear-drive model is quicker, however, while the all-wheel-drive model and its extra power taking that 0-60 mph time down to an impressive 4.8 seconds.
Within this new model is a contemporary design, complete with high-tech features, ambient lighting and a generous amount of cargo space. Uncluttered yet playful, the interior also features cloth seats with heat up front. Jumping to the Pro S model brings with it faux-leather upholstery along with 12-way power adjustable front seats with a memory function.
Tech lovers will revel in the 12.0-inch infotainment touchscreen which comes standard, while a 12.9-inch is optional and also boasts backlit controls for volume and climate. Navigation is also standard as is wireless versions of the ever-popular Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. All models also come with a 5.3-inch reconfigurable digital gauge display and voice–recognition capability.
The electrified ID.4 also comes with a wide range of safety and driver-assistance features, all of which serve to instill a high level of confidence for drivers. Standard is automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection as well as lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control. More information on the vehicle's crash-test results can be found on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety websites.
In the area of warranty, VW offers a limited warranty covering four years or 50,000 miles; a powertrain warranty that covers four years or 50,000 miles and also complimentary maintenance for two years or 20,000 miles. Battery components for the vehicle are covered for eight years or 100,000 miles.
The ID.4, introduced for the first time in 2021, is a clear example of VW’s commitment to investing significantly in EVs. It is also a compact electric crossover that is easy to maneuver, comfortable and even has its fair share of style. With a suite of driver assistance safety features and a nice amount of technology, this model is all things good! Take a test drive, and reserve yours today!
